3-26-23 Lake Erie Walleye Fishing Report

Lake Erie Walleye Fishing

April is near and the fishing on Lake Erie keeps getting better by the day! The jig bite will start to heat up in the next week. The forecasted warmer temps and rain will really help raise the water temperature and get the walleye spawn kicked into full throttle. The reef complex and other spawning grounds will soon be loaded with aggressive eater size jack males, which makes for a super fun time on the water. A mix of pre-spawn and post-spawn females will be staged off the reef complex in the deeper water. Trolling has been very productive the last few weeks in March when the weather allows. We are hoping the wind/rain will give all of us anglers some opportunities to get out in these upcoming weeks as the first 2 weeks of April can be absolutely fantastic fishing, regardless whether you are jigging or trolling!

FISHING REPORT

Launch Location - Lake Erie Islands, OH

Trip Date - 3/26/23

Captain Denny Sharrone with 22 Sportfishing Charters provides us with the details of this fishing report.

We fished near Kelley's Island today in 40fow. We had to do a lot of looking for the cleanest water we could find after the huge blow yesterday. I found what I was looking for and then just had to be patient and let the sun work it's magic until the fish started getting more active. We found our best leads to be 70-120' back with the Bandit Walleye Deep crank. Anything with a white body was the best color for us. We were trolling at 2mph! That may seem a bit fast for 39 degree water but the "reaction" strike seemed to do the trick. I'll take it in those conditions! Another great day on Lake Erie in the month of March! A cooler full of fish and great company makes for another awesome day on the water!
