04-11-24 Lake Erie Walleye Report
We are in the magical month of April! This time of year anglers have unlimited options and fishing opportunities. Whether you want to chase walleye jigging or trolling, you can take your pick. The Detroit River jig bite has really heated up the last week. All sections of the river are producing good catches. The daily average size just depends on the push of fish on each day. 3/4 and 1oz jigs with plastics and stinger hooks are doing the trick as usual. The Lake Erie reef area jig bite has also been great the last week or so. Hair Jigs and Blade Baits. The Maumee walleye run is hot and heavy right now. The water is up but anglers are doing very well. Trolling on Lake Erie in the western basin has been producing great catches for weeks now. Action has been great from the mouth of the Detroit River in the Pointe Mouillee area all the way to the Lake Erie Islands. Crankbaits at speeds between 1.2-1.7mph have been good in the mid to upper water column. Bandits and Husky Jerks have been most productive as usual in the spring cool water. Huron and Lorain will start picking up with more consistent action in the upcoming weeks as some fish start trickling east. Captain Jarod provides a detailed report below from the Lake Erie Islands area.
