12-4-22 Lake Erie Walleye Fishing Report
As the year moves on and the temperatures drop, the walleye bite on Lake Erie continues to heat up! December is a fantastic month to fish open water on Lake Erie. The walleye continue to feed heavily in preparation for winter and the spawning season ahead. If you get a chance to get out, make sure to check your boat over and keep safety in mind at all times. Use caution when navigating your boat as ice buildup can become an issue. Take your steps carefully and keep clutter off the decks and boat floor. Safety is #1 this time of the year.
All the way from Arizona to catch some Lake Erie Walleye!
FISHING REPORT
Launch Location - Vermillion, OH Area of Lake Erie
Captain Denny Sharrone with 22 Sportfishing Charters provides us with the details of this fishing report.
We fished out of Vermilion again today and it didn't disappoint. My client Jim traveled all the way here from Arizona to catch a Lake Erie walleye. It was on his bucket list and he finally checked it off. What a great feeling to help him with that! It didn't come easy as it was COLD! What a temperature shock for him from Arizona! We battled the brutal cold and ice buildup but it was worth it.
A cold morning's bounty of Lake Erie Walleye!
The recent big wind blows had the fish scattered into small pods. The water temp is now down to 43 degrees. Our target depth was 38-42 ft of water. We trolled Bandit Walleye Deep Cranks today. 100' - 120' back unassisted was best. We also ran bandits with Snap Weights, using the 50 + 2 method. We caught fish on a variety of colors. We trolled with a speed of 1.7mph. We had to battle the brutal cold conditions, but it paid off! We landed some great size walleye and helped a customer check off a bucket list fish! Another great day on Lake Erie! Use caution and be safe if you make it out to enjoy some of this great December fishing!
