5-27-22 Lake Erie Walleye Fishing Report
Launch Location - Fenwick Marina - Oak Harbor, OH
Had been 2 weeks since we fished, so we had to put on a lot of miles to find an active pod that was wanting to eat. Went 12 miles west out of the launch to find lots of marks but they were not firing. Tried to get them to go, but they weren't having it. Made a few moves and more of the same. Made a BIG move and ended up 22 miles east of where we started. By 9am we were on some decent marks and some fairly active fish. We had a slow pick going for awhile. One here and there, with an occasional double. We were releasing most of our fish, so we were able to keep fishing and scouting. This allowed us to stay out till 11:30am and find out the fish we were on decided it was time to EAT! The bite went from a slow pick to a fire drill. Apparently they were 2nd shifters and didn't want to wake up till noon LOL. We caught and released a ton and kept our limit of fish for an upcoming fish fry. We caught them on our house brand harnesses, stinger spoons and suspending bandits. Eye-Slammer Harnesses at 1.8mph, 40-60' behind the Off Shore size 1 tadpoles. Michigan Stinger Scorpion Spoons at 2.5-2.8mph 50-70' behind tadpoles as well. Suspending bandits back 65-100' unnassited at 2.5-2.8mph. These fish wouldn't touch the cranks unless we were blazing them through the school. Water temp was up to 68 degrees. Back at it tomorrow. Good luck this weekend to everyone getting out on the water.
