6-24-22 Lake Erie Walleye Fishing Report
Launch Location - Fenwick Marina - Oak Harbor, Ohio
Left the dock around 5:30am and headed out as the sun came up. Awesome sunrise this morning! Made our way out to 32' and set lines. Didn't take long to learn that the floating mats of mayfly larvae we're going to make things a little tricky. They were everywhere we fished in the deeper water and were like islands! Only ran 4 dipsy rods to combat the bug problem. Popped two keepers instantly and then nothing for a minute. Pulled lines and made a move. Set up in 34' of water and started pulling fish. We got some really nice fish today. Many that were at the 23-24" mark, which is great for this time of the year out west. Slow but steady pick, nothing crazy. Our Custom Color Badmo Spoon in both the 2.5" and 3.5" was best again today. That color flat out produces! Spoons behind size zero dipsy divers. Zero setting 80-100 back and the three setting 120 back were our best leads. The fish were holding deep. Had to slow down and keep our speed at 2.1-2.3 today. They didn't want it fast. Only a few shorts and sheep. Caught around 20 keepers, only needed 12 today, so catch and release was in order for a few lucky fish. Light SE wind. Water temp was 74 degrees. Snapped a pic at the gas station after the trip was over. Out of towner's were freaked out by the mayflies covering the side of the gas station!
