7-1-23 Lake Erie Multi-Port Fishing Report
This report covers 6 locations and 8 different reports from across the Lake Erie shores. Now that summer is here, the walleye migration is settling in and fish are being found in eastern waters in great numbers. Not only are numbers showing up, but the big fish as well. As always, there are still plenty of walleye to be had west of the islands but the annual eastern migration has the big numbers of fish hanging out in the deeper summer waters east of the islands all the way to NY. Yellow Perch action is starting up on the western end in the normal early season areas. Perch fishing will only continue to get better from here. Below we break down each port location with some fresh reports from some great captains and anglers. Make sure to check them out if you are looking to get out on Lake Erie! We break the reports down from the west end of Lake Erie to the east end. Enjoy đź‘Ť

We launched out of Bolles Harbor on Lake Erie around 11 am. We fished in 10-14 feet of water! Walleye Nation Creations Boogie Shad’s 15-40' behind the Offshore Tackle Planer Boards did the trick for us today! Did I say how much I love this bait! Best speed 1.9-2.3 gps.Â

We left the dock at 9am once Ben and I arrived from the firehouse. We headed back to the shallows to see what remained from Mondays amazing bite. Our first pass we ran from 12-15 fow and pulled 9 fish over a mile troll north and back south. We made the turn again and the bite died. For the next mile it was slow but we found them again in 16-18fow this time. After dropping some divers and finding the bite deeper, we dropped a side of rattle tots to match the depth and it was a beat down the rest of the morning! Our best program today was Rattle Tots 30-40 back on one side and 85 back on the other. Dipseys on a 3 back 27 with a brown trout J-7, and BFT Tru Trip 50s back 20 & 22 with NASCAR stinger spoon on one side and a Flicker Shad 7 on the other. Speed today was 2.6-2.8.
We really had a one mile stretch locked in and our bite was so good we finished their 24, Ben got his 6, and I even picked up 3 on clean up! We had very few rods left out at the end. Ben did a fine job for the men at the cleaning station and we will see them again tomorrow morning for another round!

Perch fishing in the western basin of Lake Erie is getting warmed up! I have been concentrating on contours between 19 and 21 fow. We have been fishing mostly in between the Toledo water intake and A can. We have caught most of the perch on the Fishing Addiction Gear Purple and Orange Perch Fly Figs. I am running a 1 oz egg sinker for the weight. Leaving just a little slack in the line has been producing fish. Today I took a couple out and they both got their limit of perch before noon! The perch fishing will just keep getting better from here!

The air was smoky this morning, but the fishing was smokin! It was an absolute reel fest from the second I set lines. I couldn't get much of anything set for a long while. I actually pulled lines and ran outside of the pod of fish to get my lines set We had James who has been out with me before and two newbies. They had a blast reeling in fish today. We only caught 3 shorts today . The overall grade of fish was good, anchored by a 5.5 to 6lb fish. Everything caught fish today, but the Goldaliscious Reaper was on fire at 90 back. Mad Eye Minnows, Bandits, Reapers and Flicker 11s all caught. BADMO LURES spoons off of dipsy divers were good too. Reapers, Bandits and Spro's were ran 65 to 130 back. The Flickers were 40/40 and 30/30. Dipsy Divers were on a 0 setting (no ring) 25 to 40 back. Speed was 2.3 we fished near Vermilion in 45 to 50 FOW.

We fished two days out of the Lorain area and both days were great. 47 - 50' of water was best for us. Bandits and flickers anywhere from 60 to 120' back caught fish. Overall best leads were 90 to 120' back behind the boards. Minimal short fish today and not one junk fish. Mostly 18 to 20 inch fish with some absolute giants mixed in. We caught walleye trolling anywhere from 1.8 to 2.2 mph. Great fishing on Lake Erie!Â

Location:Â Ashtabula, OH
Species:Â Walleye

The walleye fishing in Ashtabula Ohio remains fantastic! Most anglers and charter captains are continuing to fish in that 60-65’ of water just north of Ashtabula or around the dumping ground. The “short fish” (or illegal sized walleye) are plentiful in this area as well so it’s constant action and a lot of sorting to fill your limit with keeper sized fish. Big Fish Tuff Tru-trip 40s and small spoons have been very good. 300’ of stainless steel wire line and Deep diving crankbaits Like bomber 24a’s, junior thundersticks, and flicker minnows seem to be pulling a little better grade of fish and helping to reduce the throwbacks. There is also a school
Or better quality fish in 72’ of water but finding and active pod can be hit or miss day to day.

Species:Â Walleye

We have been fishing in 53-83’ of water north of the lighthouse, off the state park. Morning bite is fast and easy in the top 20’ of water. Jet 30’s 50’ back before the sun kisses the sky, 100-150’ back as the sun lifts. 5 color lead cores with spoons are firing off too. Bigger fish are down below 40’. 3.0 dipsys have been hot with small spoons. Riggers 30-45’ down small spoons or shallow plugs. Seems all colors having been good. Dark contrasts in morning and lighter colors as the sun lifts. 5 color with deep divers in afternoon. Jet 30’s w 2-3oz and spoons in afternoon. Deep divers and 3+oz also in the afternoon. Haven’t had to play with speed outside of 2.3-2.5 on the fishhawk.

We have been fishing in 70-76 FOW off Presque Isle. Lots of little fish we gotta sort through but there are big fish mixed in. Jet 40s 150-200’ back have been good. Leadcore 5 color with bomber 24a's have also been doing good. Trolling speeds 2.0-2.4 mph have been the best for us. The fishing further east seems to be holding a little bit bigger class of fish with the same program.
