7-15-23 Lake Erie Multi-Port Fishing Report
This is another massive Lake Erie fishing report with 9 reports coming from 8 different locations across the Lake Erie shores. We break down each port location with some fresh reports from some great Lake Erie captains and anglers. This week we cover reports from Monroe, MI all the way to Buffalo, NY. Reports covering everything from the yellow perch bite in the far western basin to walleye reports from all across the lake. Some captains are finding Steelhead mixed in throughout the eastern waters of Ohio and near the OH/PA line. Make sure to check out these captains and give them a shout if you are looking to get out on Lake Erie to chase some fish! Hats off to all captains and anglers for taking the time to provide these reports! We break the reports down from the west end of Lake Erie to the east end. Enjoy 👍

Made the trip down to Lake Erie today and launched out of Sterling State Park in Monroe. The weather was absolutely gorgeous today, with mostly sunny conditions. Winds were south at 10, giving the water the perfect walleye chop and kept the bugs away. I had intended to head out towards the Sputnik Buoy (Maumee Bay Entrance Buoy 2), but with the amount of fish I was marking on the way out I had to stop and fish it. Starting in Michigan waters about a mile from the Ohio border all the way out to the Shipping Lane and from the buoy north, we never stopped marking fish. Humongous pods of walleye and other farm animals out there. We started catching fish as soon as the first board was set. It was non stop action! There were a lot of shorts in the mix as well, but it was great seeing the future of our great fishery! Our program consisted of No. 2 Tadpoles from Off Shore Tackle Company with WNC Lil’ SB Reapers running 70-90' back. The other hot ticket was was running Jet Divers size 20 with with Michigan Stinger Scorpion spoons at 65-90' back. Colors didn’t seem to matter much, we had a variety and we were reeling in fish non stop. I do know that pinks and oranges caught more non target species. Our speed was right around 2.3-2.5 mph. So if you are heading to the Monroe area, head straight out of SSP towards the Ohio line, watch your electronics and I know you’re going to find those fish!

So far this year the yellow perch bite is doing really great!!! Overall the bite has been pretty decent most days. We have been having to move and work the contours that are holding some active gold!!!! The Fishing Addiction Gear Perch Fly Rig in the color "mountain dew" has been hot. Orange has also been a really good color lately. Purple has been the color to top out our "best" 3 on recent trips. The last trip we moved out to 22 fow and it seemed like we found some bigger fish! Some trips they are wanting it laying on the bottom on a slack line occasionally.

We fished near the Lorain dumping grounds. We did well in 50 - 51' of water. We did best on Berkley Flicker Minnows 90 - 120' back behind the Off Shore Tackle planer boards. We ran the flickers unassisted with no weight. We also did well on WNC Boogie Shads using the 50/50 method with a 2oz snap weight. We trolled at a speed of 2.4 mph. The surface temp was 77 degrees today. Very nice day on the water and a pile of Lake Erie Walleye!

The big girls are HERE and NOW is the time to get on the schedule if you’ve been thinking about a Lake Erie walleye trip. The action is way too good and the quality is the best I’ve seen- just look at that board!!! The walleyes have been on fire and so have the steelhead! The walleye lately have been of phenomenal quality and it seems we are hooking more and more steelhead as the summer goes on.
I do still have some availability out of Ashtabula for the remainder of the summer, so please don’t hesitate to call, text, or message to discuss trip details and availability. I’m still running one side Tru-Trip Divers with big spoons and 1 side 300’ of wire with cranks. 4 dipsy diver rods have been working their magic as well.

Location: Conneaut, OH
Species: Walleye
Report Provided By: Captain Jamie Ward
Walleye fishing remains great out of Conneaut. Very similar program and results as last week but we battled a ton of short fish today. We caught so many shorts it wasn't even possible to keep track. After awhile we worked our way out to deeper water to try and find some bigger fish. We ended up in 78' of water, found the better fish and laid the hammer down. Speed between 2.3 to 2.8 mph. Running pretty much the same program as last week with minor lead tweaks here and there. 300 ft of wire with Bomber Long A's is still good. 5 to 8 color lead core with a Bomber long A behind a church stern planer. Dipsy Divers with spoons produced fish. Off shore planer boards with weighted flicker minnow size 9 and 11s 50/50 with a 2oz snap weight. Tru-Trip 40s pulling Michigan stinger and magnum spoons. Downriggers running 45' to 65' down with shallow diving cranks and mag spoons are still working well.

We have been fishing in 58-68’ of water. We have been running Jet 30s off the east side of they bay with small spoons. 5 color leadcore has been good with small spoons as well. Bigger fish have been deeper and out into 85-90’ of water. Steelhead have been in 95-105’ of water, 45-65’ down. Riggers and divers with 3.5” spoons for the steelhead have been productive.

We have still been fishing out in deeper water. We are fishing anywhere from 65' - 72' of water. 5 color with Bomber 24as have been good for us. The inside fish are biting deep diving cranks at 200' back unassisted with mono. 2.3-2.6 mph has been our speed. There are still some little fish mixed in as well!

The walleye bite continues to be strong in the eastern basin. It appears the summer migrators have arrived in Buffalo. Let the chaos begin! Get out there early. Like real really. With cooperating weather there will be 150/200 boats converging on the big school off of buffalo, especially with the sunset bay walleye shoot out. Which is Friday and Saturday. If you choose to stay away from the crowds there are fish to be found off Barcelona to Dunkirk as well. 55-65’ still seems to produce the majority of fish but deeper waters can also hold suspended fish and they are generally a much better age class also. We are running crawler harnesses with 2oz and 3oz inline weights 75 - 100' back. We are also running harnesses behind 4oz and 5oz bottom bouncers. Limits of walleye have been consistent most days.
