Lake Erie Perch Rigs
When fishing Lake Erie for perch, the perch rig is what stands between you and the fish. Once you locate a school, you send the Perch Rig down to the depths to try and coax the Lake Erie yellow perch into biting. Like any other type of fishing, there are various ways to target fish and a variety of lures to chase them with. There are many types of rigs that have been used over the years with spreaders and snelled hooks being common. As the yellow perch population fluctuates and their diets change, the effective rigs have seen some changes too. Over the last few years our Perch Fly Rig has become one of the top producing Lake Erie Perch Rigs. Through trial and error and years of testing, this rig has become an absolute killer for yellow perch on Lake Erie and many other bodies of water across the country. These perch rigs are made with ZERO wires or crimps as they reduce the feel and sensitivity. This is critical on days when the fish are light biting. They are also made to float out from the main rig line on dropper lines to allow the fish to pick them up before feeling the feedback of the mainline. Over the years, we evolved the Perch Fly Rig to make it stronger and stronger. After years of use and testing, it was easy to see that a Lake Erie Perch Rig needs to be not only effective on catching yellow perch but also tough enough to stand up to the occasional sheepshead and other larger non target fish. Over time, we beefed up the rig to last longer and give the angler the most bang for their buck. Sure you can try and find a similar option cheaper, but you will typically find it to be made in mass production overseas and many of them fail rather quickly. In addition to it's strength, the hand tied flies add the perfect pop of color, action and flash. Spreaders have been a staple on Lake Erie for years but many, many spreader fisherman have tried the Perch Fly Rig and won't go out on Lake Erie without em. Sure there are those rare, perfect days where the perch will hit almost anything you throw at em, but those days are few and far between. Many days our Perch Fly Rigs are run side by side against spreaders and other perch rigs and they come away with the biggest dent made in the cooler.
